actually not to long ago i saw a blog on here that said “don’t follow if you have intrusive thoughts about ___” and if i may be frank, that’s always the direction that post that’s like “intrusive thought: eat leaf” was heading and the kind of impact it would have.

intrusive thoughts are by nature of existing unpleasant, triggering, frightening, and overall intrusive. the intrusive thoughts someone has are often more emblematic of what most distresses and disgusts them as opposed to manifestations of actual desires. it’s not something you can control, and while you can learn to cope with it, it’s still a serious symptom of many serious and painful mental disorders, many of which are very stigmatized such as OCD.

by whitewashing what intrusive thoughts are a lot of people saw actual intrusive thoughts as fringe and therefore repulsive, so it has become harder to garner sympathy and support for people who actually experience it.

when we say we need you to support people with intrusive thoughts and stigmatized mental illness- we mean people with ALL types of intrusive thoughts because if you think you can pick and choose you are sorely mistaken

also just to be blatant: this was made with people who experience POCD and intrusive thoughts of pedophilia in mind and I mean what I said

you can reblog this, especially if you don’t have intrusive thoughts

Compulsive thoughts: eat leaf, grab bee, tear homework

Intrusive thoughts: stab someone

Intrusive thoughts are especially terrifying because its so easy to realize you’re having these thoughts and immediately assume you’re insane, or a horrible person, because NOBODY talks about intrusive thoughts. They talk about compulsive thoughts and label them as intrusive.

When someone has that fleeting thought that they could k*ll someone, and they’ve never been told that a HUGE percentage of people get those exact same thoughts, they’ll become terrified of themselves.
